Cedar Lake fire and EMS recognized for emergency responses; June activity, grant and equipment updates reported

The Fire and EMS leadership told the council that local crews have received formal thanks for recent emergency responses and highlighted operational updates.
The council read a letter from United Services thanking police and fire personnel for their response to a residence incident and offering property-securing services at no cost to the affected family. Fire/EMS also shared a Stork Club certificate from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security congratulating crew members who delivered a baby boy in an ambulance on May 24.
Department personnel gave financial and activity updates: the expenditure report noted the year is roughly 50% complete and 39% of the budget had been utilized; June purchase orders totaled $10,126.95. Fire/EMS reported 278 total incidents in June — 193 EMS calls, 73 fire calls and 12 vehicle accidents. The department also reported 486 training hours for June and minor equipment issues including an ambulance out of service for an air-conditioning repair.
On police-related equipment, the police chief said an EV vehicle purchase is contingent on state funds and court-treasurer reimbursement; the department is awaiting that money before buying new patrol cars. The transcript records the chief saying the office has submitted required paperwork and is awaiting maintenance of conditions on the state side.
During public comment, Terry Broadhurst (14513 Moore Street) thanked both departments for their support during the town’s Summerfest and for responding through difficult weather.
The council moved and approved routine departmental reports on the expenditure and activity numbers by roll call. No new appropriations were adopted during the meeting; the board said maintenance and follow-up repairs will be scheduled as needed.
