Shelby City Council approves $410,833 trail expansion contract, hires EMT and OKs logo trademark

Shelby City Council on June 18 approved a series of consent items, including a $410,833 contract for the 2024 Trail Expansion Phase 2, authorization to trademark and advertise a new city logo, a hiring offer for an EMT/City Maintenance position, and a five-year forgivable housing loan.
Councilmember Pat Honeywell moved to approve the meeting agenda at the start of the special session; the motion, seconded by Councilmember Todd Frank, passed on a unanimous roll call of council members Pat Honeywell, Karen Schlueter, Jackie Hursey, Todd Frank and Traci True. The council proceeded to consider and approve several agenda items as motions.
Councilmember Honeywell moved, and Jackie Hursey seconded, approval of City Logo example No. 1 as presented by Cydney Shriver; the council authorized trademarking the logo and beginning advertising. Later, Honeywell moved and Frank seconded acceptance of TK Concrete’s bid of $410,833.00 for the 2024 Trail Expansion Phase 2; the motion carried on a unanimous roll call.
On personnel, Honeywell moved and Hursey seconded that the EMT/City Maintenance position be offered to Joey Brenneis at $22.00 per hour with a $1.00 increase after a 90-day probationary period; the motion carried. Councilmember Karen Schlueter moved, seconded by Todd Frank, to approve a five-year forgivable housing loan of $5,000 for applicant Brady Huebner; the motion passed unanimously.
The council also set a public hearing for July 2 at 7 p.m. to consider the Meadow Subdivision plats and approved the claims and the Treasurer’s report by unanimous vote. The Mayor closed the hearing at 8:30 p.m.
No ordinances, contested hearings, or recorded dissent were noted in the meeting record; all listed motions carried with all ayes on roll call.
