Mapleton board approves FY2025 budget hearing; adopts financial authorizations and accepts donations

The Mapleton Local School District board conducted the public hearing on the fiscal year 2025 tax budget and later approved several financial actions at its Jan. 13 meeting.

The treasurer conducted the public budget hearing to review the FY2025 tax budget. Following the hearing, the board accepted the December 2024 financial report by recorded vote.

As part of a bundled consent motion (items A–Q), the board authorized routine financial management actions for 2025: the Treasurer may secure advances on tax settlements when funds are payable; the Treasurer may invest inactive district funds at prevailing interest rates; the Treasurer may pay bills within appropriation limits; the Treasurer and Board President are authorized to borrow funds within legal limits; the Superintendent is designated purchasing agent for purchases up to $10,000 without Board approval; and blanket purchase orders up to $40,000 were authorized pursuant to ORC 5705.41(D). The board also designated the Ashland Times-Gazette as the district’s official newspaper for publishing notices.

The board approved creation of Fund 019-9025, named the Frank Goschinski and Goschinski Family Charitable Fund, to track charitable contributions, and accepted multiple donations in December 2024, including a $7,000 gift from the Frank Goschinski & Goschinski Family Charitable Fund; $1,750 from Mapleton Takedown Club (wrestling); $1,600 and $400 from Mapleton Athletic Boosters (basketball); $680 from Ashland University (tuition reimbursement); a $253.95 LMRE electric rebate; a $500 anonymous donation for the MHS score table; and a $500 donation from Hickey Associates/Dennis & Laura Hickey Fund.

All consent and financial authorizations were adopted by recorded vote as part of the consent agenda.
