Shelby council asks RV-park applicant for formal plans; will review application to restore downtown bar

At its July 2 meeting the Shelby City Council directed an RV-park expansion proponent to prepare a written plan and design and to submit a building permit application for zoning review. Tony Zappia raised the expansion during the public forum; the council did not approve substantive changes at the meeting but asked for formal submittal so staff can begin a zoning review.

Alex and Lanette Parra told the council they are interested in purchasing the old bar at 403 East Street and asked about economic-development incentives. The minutes say the city will review their Economic Development program application after the Parra’s purchase is complete and an application has been submitted; no incentives or terms are recorded in the minutes.

The minutes also state that the public hearing for the Meadows Subdivision final plat was canceled because the final plats were not available, so no substantive hearing occurred on that subdivision matter. Councilors discussed dying and diseased trees in town and directed the city clerk to contact DNR Forestry to request a tree inventory and management plan. The minutes do not provide timelines for the inventory or further budget details.
