Bar Harbor Design Review Board approves Radian Roots permit, elects new secretary

The Town of Bar Harbor Design Review Board approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for a Radian Roots project and elected a new board secretary at its meeting on May 14, 2026.
Chair Erin Cough called the meeting to order at 4:03 p.m. with Vice-chair Barbara Sassaman and Members Pancho Cole and Bo Jennings present; Deputy Code Enforcement Officer Tammy Desjardin was listed as staff present. The meeting ran until 4:28 p.m.
The board approved Certificate of Appropriateness Application 2026-01, filed by Radian Roots and represented by applicant Chris Marcial, for work at 1501 State Highway 102 (parcel 219-033-000). Marcial described plans to add a shed and install a fence. Board members discussed exterior color choices and lighting details and completed the Deliberations and Findings Checklist before voting. Vice-chair Barbara Sassaman moved to approve the application as submitted; Member Bo Jennings seconded and the motion carried 4-0.
Chair Cough reminded the applicant that any work approved at the meeting requires applying for and receiving the appropriate building permits before construction begins.
On procedural business the board amended the agenda to add an item to elect a secretary after Andrea Lepicio recently left the board. Vice-chair Sassaman moved the amendment, Member Pancho Cole seconded, and the amendment passed 4-0. Vice-chair Sassaman then moved to elect Member Pancho Cole as secretary; Member Bo Jennings seconded and the motion passed (recorded in the minutes as 3-0).
The board approved the minutes from the April 9, 2026 meeting by a 4-0 vote. Vice-chair Sassaman moved to adjourn the meeting at 4:28 p.m.; Member Bo Jennings seconded and the motion carried 4-0.
Vice-chair Sassaman introduced a resident who may be interested in joining the board. Chair Cough reviewed board members whose terms may soon expire, and Member Jennings suggested holding a virtual handbook workshop in June if no applications are received; staff will forward that suggestion to the Planning Director.
The board did not receive any public comment during the meeting.
