The district and city staff announced plans to revive the WaterFest community event at Robinson Lake and the board approved a modest event budget and backing for a rain‑garden project.
Russell, the city’s marketing director, described efforts to reestablish the WaterFest (coordinating with MS4 outreach and community partners) and said partners such as the Shirley Heinz Land Trust and Save the Dunes have committed to participate. Staff asked the board for a not‑to‑exceed $1,000 line item to pay for small give‑aways, printed materials and signage to help re‑launch the event; the board approved that amount.
Staff also proposed creating a larger rain garden near the Robinson Lake parking lot to capture runoff, stabilize the shoreline and provide public education opportunities. Parks staff expressed support for the location and volunteers and vendors were identified as possible partners. The board gave its backing to proceed with the rain‑garden concept and community engagement.
