Nevada City Council certifies election results, swears in new members; Branham chosen mayor, Selby mayor pro tem

At a special session on April 13, the City Council of Nevada, Missouri, unanimously approved resolutions certifying the municipal election held on April 7 and swore in newly elected members before selecting council leadership.

The council approved Resolution No. 1916, certifying results for two council seats, and Resolution No. 1917, certifying results for a vacant two-year seat. Both motions were moved and seconded (motions recorded in the minutes) and described as passing unanimously.

City Clerk Cynthia Dye swore in Carol Branham to a three-year term, Simeon Miller to a three-year term, and Amber Barker to a two-year term, as recorded in the minutes. Assistant City Manager Mary Wilson then provided an overview of the mayor and mayor pro tem roles under the city charter.

For mayor, Councilperson Miranda Selby nominated Councilperson Carol Branham. With no further nominations, the council voted to cease nominations and Branham was declared mayor by roll call with the following recorded ayes: Selby, Barker, Branham, Miles and Miller. Mayor Pro Tem Bill Miles passed the gavel to Mayor Branham.

Simeon Miller nominated Miranda Selby for mayor pro tem. With no further nominations, the council ceased nominations and Selby was declared mayor pro tem by roll-call vote (Aye: Miles, Miller, Selby, Barker, Branham).

The minutes also recognize outgoing Councilperson Kendall Vickers for six years of service and include announcements about a Moore-Few Care Center open house on April 17 and a City Official training by Lauber Law on May 15. The council adjourned at 6:21 p.m.

The minutes do not record dissent or any contested ballot counts; the certification and leadership votes are recorded as unanimous.
