The Alma City Council on May 18 discussed a resident’s request for a "chicken permit" under Title IX General Regulations—Animal Control 90.99. Clerk Janet Dietz said a request had been submitted; Councilman Larry Casper asked whether chickens must be kept in a pen and Councilman Tom Moulton raised the municipal zoning question about a limit of not more than 10 chickens. City Attorney Doug Walker advised keeping the issue under control and reviewing potential conflicts with existing ordinances. The council agreed to table the request pending additional information.
Separately, the council reviewed an addendum to the city cleaning contract proposed by Jeff Lynch to add cleaning of the auditorium and the ballpark bathrooms. Members asked City Attorney Doug Walker to review and rewrite the contract; the council tabled the addendum to the next meeting for attorney review and further consideration.
Both items were left on the table for the next meeting so staff and legal counsel could return with clarifications.
