Dodge County approves Union Pacific crossing agreement and receives highway department update

The Dodge County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 23 approved a Public Highway At‑Grade Crossing Agreement with Union Pacific Railroad Company for the Shoreline Drive crossing and authorized Chairman Missel to sign the agreement.
Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert told the Board the agreement gives the county the right to use the crossing and to begin construction; any additional work by the county will still require railroad approval. Huppert also introduced Joann (Jo) Pruess as the new Highway Department assistant and briefed the Board on recent maintenance: ditch cleaning, hauling riprap, pothole patching and completion of the Luther Road box culvert project.
Huppert said two bridges submitted from Dodge County were not selected in the Bridge Match program and noted a conflict related to the way bridge weight‑limit signs are posted that may require the county to purchase a corrected sign to satisfy insurance requirements.
