Adair County identifies bridges, daycare and housing as top priorities in CDBG emergency pre-application hearing

At a 9:00 a.m. public hearing on Oct. 7, the Adair County Commission and Chris Feeney of the Northeast Regional Planning Commission completed a community needs assessment required for an emergency Community Development Block Grant pre-application. The assessment documented that 47.0% of the county's population qualifies as low- and moderate-income.
Commissioners and staff recorded the community's top five priorities in order: bridges, daycare, housing, emergency services and water. The minutes state that proposed bridge improvements would address numerous aged bridges, short crossings and box culverts that are in poor condition and not eligible for state or federal aid, making local replacement a priority.
A sign-in sheet for the hearing is included in the minutes; no citizens of Adair County are recorded as attending the hearing beyond county officials and the regional planning representative. The Commission completed the required assessment during the hearing and will use the recorded priorities to shape the grant pre-application.
