Azimuth Renewables outlines 260–280-acre Adair County solar project; Commissioners raise decommissioning concerns

David Bunge, president of Azimuth Renewables, LLC, told the Adair County Commission on Oct. 1 that his company plans a 260–280-acre solar project in Adair County and has partnered with Birch Creek Industries, which previously worked with Azimuth on two projects in Audrain County. Bunge said the project is likely to begin next year and would not connect to the 69-kilovolt line located on the south side of the site.
Commissioners said they would consider but had concerns about issuing Chapter 100 bonds to assist the project. The Commission advised that the county could be exposed to decommissioning responsibility if the company went bankrupt. No formal financing action was taken at the meeting.
The Commission and staff also inspected nearby roads around the prospective solar site on Oct. 2 to monitor potential impacts on county infrastructure. J.B. Hamlin, the county's Road and Bridge supervisor, was present for the Oct. 1 briefing and later joined road checks.
The item remains informational; the Commission did not vote on any financing or development approvals during the recorded meetings. Next steps noted in the minutes included continued monitoring and further conversations with the developer and legal counsel about financing options and liability protections.
