Lake Massapoag advisory panel approves monitoring, mapping and outreach contracts totaling about $35,500

The Lake Massapoag Advisory Committee voted Jan. 28 to approve a set of contracts to expand monitoring, mapping and technical support for the watershed.
The committee approved three contracts with consulting firm TRC—plant mapping (Contract #1, $7,200 with an optional BioBase map for $1,400), in-lake monitoring (Contract #2, $9,100) and targeted testing (Contract #3, $9,700). Gary Bluestein moved each motion and Dan Lewenberg seconded; votes were recorded as in favor by the attending committee members listed in the minutes.
The committee also approved a contract with the Neponset River Watershed Association (NepRWA) for Sucker Brook water-quality sampling and hourly technical assistance, recorded in the minutes as $9,500. NepRWA will provide sampling through the Citizen Water Monitoring Network and offer on-call support to finalize the Watershed-Based Plan and produce fact sheets and outreach materials.
Taken together the TRC contracts total $26,000 and the NepRWA contract adds $9,500, for a combined commitment of about $35,500. The committee discussed using the BioBase mapping output to produce color-coded depth and weed-concentration maps focused initially on the coves with highest invasive-weed density, with the option to expand mapping lakewide in a later phase.
The committee asked staff and vendors to provide deliverable timelines and cost estimates for any lakewide expansion of mapping and for the optional BioBase product so that future budget decisions can be made with clearer cost projections.
Next procedural step: the committee will present the five-year plan and proposed expenditures to the Select Board on March 10 and to relevant finance bodies as required.
