The Sharon Board of Education accepted the resignation of Andrew Deacon and the retirement of Steven Muthig, effective Nov. 30, 2025, at its Nov. 17, 2025 hybrid meeting. Both personnel actions were approved by recorded motion and carried unanimously.
The board also approved a severance allowance for Steven Muthig. The minutes record the retirement date as Nov. 30, 2025 and indicate the board approved a severance allowance and offered congratulations and regret for his service.
Cathy Winburn moved, seconded by Konrad (Chip) Kruger, to approve the Sharon Board Goals as a working document in progress; the motion passed unanimously. The board described the goals as a working document and did not adopt final language or an implementation schedule in these minutes.
The board approved holding a parent forum; Superintendent Melony Brady-Shanley described a plan for rotating groups through topics and said she would circulate a doodle poll to schedule the forum. Members suggested the PTO provide a monthly report at Board of Education meetings.
Other administrative items noted in the minutes: a letter related to the Town Plan was acknowledged with additional information to come; a doodle poll will be sent to set a special meeting date; Chair Philip O’Reilly will respond to an email about school lighting; and Principal Carol Tomkalski and Superintendent Melony Brady-Shanley reviewed their reports. The board also noted an upcoming board-members meeting on Dec. 4, 2025 with Thomas Mooney and discussed a grant received by the Sharon Community Foundation.
The meeting adjourned at 7:53 PM by motion of Peter Birnbaum, seconded by Cathy Winburn; the motion carried unanimously. The minutes were signed and submitted by Board Clerk Cindy Webb.
