Winthrop City Clerk to retire March 15, 2026; hiring committee named

City Clerk Mary Ryan told the Winthrop City Council at its Dec. 3 meeting that she plans to retire on March 15, 2026. The council named a hiring committee to lead the recruitment, consisting of Mayor Dennie, Nick Krum (PWD) and Councilmember Lee White.
During the meeting Mayor Dennie and Councilmember Jim Loughren took oaths of office. The council also approved the consent agenda — including prior meeting minutes from Nov. 5, 2025, current bills, the current financial report and designating the Bulletin Journal as the paper of record for legal notices — on a motion by Melissa Hesner, seconded by Ann Myers; the motion carried with all ayes.
The council reviewed a Nuvei auto processing utility program but tabled further action until next month; the meeting record does not state who made the motion to table. Councilmembers publicly thanked Melissa Hesner for her years of service. The meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m. on a motion by Jim Loughren, seconded by Brian Kelchen that carried with all ayes.
