At the June 16 meeting the Town of Newry Select Board accepted a proposed fee schedule and heard a series of administrative and fiscal updates.
Selectman David Bartlett moved to accept the proposed fees and Selectperson Mandy Berry seconded; the board voted unanimously to adopt the fees.
The clerk reported sending roughly 100 30‑day notices, with about 50 remaining. Town Administrator Loretta Powers said Lone Pine Road was paved up to 100–200 feet of Route 2 to avoid a seam, and reported issues with the post office not always postmarking mail the day it was delivered, which may affect tax payment postmarks. Powers also noted outreach for the Comprehensive Plan engagement session and upcoming joint Select Board meeting in Greenwood.
Powers recorded a school payment total of $4,908,748 and noted scheduled monthly payments of $409,063. Chair Virgil Conkright said Med Care is evaluating its finances, expects a possible rate increase and reported a proposed new medication procedure with an estimated cost of about $30,000.
During board comment Selectman David Bartlett raised concerns about public perception on Facebook that Newry should pay more for Bethel police coverage; Powers said she had contacted Sheriff Wainwright to clarify how often Bethel officers respond to Newry calls and that Bethel officers typically respond only for real emergencies.
The meeting adjourned at 5:31 p.m.; the next meeting is set for July 7, 2026.
