The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors on July 7 approved multiple routine financial and land‑use items, including accounts payable totaling $1,586,460.35 and the final plat for Combs Subdivision, and designated the courthouse bulletin board at 513 North Main Street in Jermanton as the county’s official posting place for legal notices.
The board voted to approve accounts payable claims of $963,927.65 plus checks and wire transfers totaling $622,532.50 for a grand total of $1,586,460.35 after a motion and roll‑call-style confirmation of members’ verbal votes.
During the finance portion, the board addressed two payroll reimbursement claims. A claim of $1,990.44 that had been tabled at a prior meeting drew a motion to deny; the board acted on that motion. A separate reimbursement claim for $1,420.95 was moved, seconded and approved.
Land-use staff presented the final plat and accompanying resolution for Combs Subdivision, a minor split of a 0.25‑acre parcel along Hawkeye Creek that is being absorbed by an adjoining property owner. The resolution included a written condition waiving the county’s minimum lot‑size requirement (40,000 square feet) because the parcel is unbuildable and intended only to regularize boundaries; the board moved and approved the resolution.
The board also adopted a resolution designating the bulletin board located in the courthouse entryway at 513 North Main Street, Jermanton, Iowa, as the official posting place for Des Moines County legal notices, citing Iowa Code section 21.4 and requiring parallel posting on the county website.
Other actions taken included approval of a fireworks permit for 34 Raceway for July 9, 2026; approval of an amended appointment letter for the correctional center (corrections to minor rate figures); filing of the Veterans Affairs monthly report with the auditor’s office; and approval of the minutes from the June 30, 2026 regular meeting. Several routine items were moved and seconded with voice votes recorded by name.
The meeting’s routine business closed after committee reports and public input, where residents asked clarifying questions about the new official‑posting resolution and past ordinance work. The board also directed staff to follow up on several administrative items discussed during department reports.
