Hartland selectmen approve $907,850 in landfill equipment purchases

The Hartland Selectmen voted 3-0 on Sept. 16 to purchase two pieces of heavy equipment for the town landfill, approving a Doppstadt Inventhor 6 shredder for $734,400 plus freight and a Liebherr 736 dozer for $173,450.
Staff member Christopher Littlefield presented the equipment recommendations and shared a report on the landfill’s recent operations, including projected profit figures for fiscal 2023–24 and the first two months of 2024–25; the minutes do not specify the dollar amounts of those projections. The motions to buy the shredder and the dozer were recorded as passed unanimously.
Selectmen also authorized Littlefield to inspect a hydrogen sulfide (H2S) monitoring/mitigation system from Byer Scientific. Littlefield said he expected to pursue grant support and vendor assistance to cover travel costs for the site visit; the board agreed he should proceed to examine the technology in person.
A member of the public, resident Josh Holmbom, praised the town during the public forum for being able to purchase the new assets with cash: “complimented the Town for being able to pay cash for new assets for the Landfill.”
The board initialed the August 2024 expense and revenue report and heard a legal update: Mark Brooks asked about the Towle case, and Littlefield said attorneys are still requesting information and discovery is ongoing. The meeting adjourned at 7:06 p.m.
