Beatrice council approves consent agenda, grants, contracts and two ordinances

The Beatrice City Council approved a routine consent agenda and several resolutions and ordinances at its meeting, including payment of claims and authorization for contracts and grants.
On the consent agenda the treasurer reported claims of $1,191,566.17. Specific approvals included an Envision Landscape claim of $879, Boswell reported claims of $38,787.71, and BPW reported claims of $988,902.99. The council approved change order No. 1 to AHRS Construction, Inc. increasing the Beatrice Municipal Airport hangar taxi lines contract by $2,811.82 for electrical utility relocation and weather days, and a decrease to Van Kirk Brothers’ contract (change order No. 5, minus $8,245.23) plus final pay request No. 10 for $66,437.51 on the 2025 Heritage Heights addition project. The council approved a $2,725 public funding request to the Beatrice Noon Kiwanis Club for the Madecas basketball tournament. The consent agenda was approved after two abstentions were recorded and the motion passed 8–0.
Council also adopted several resolutions: Resolution 7816 formalized a long-standing utility infrastructure and maintenance agreement with the Beatrice Country Club to clarify ownership and maintenance responsibilities for effluent irrigation infrastructure; Resolution 7817 accepted a USDA Rural Business Development Grant request of $46,000 with a $24,000 local match (about $70,000 total) to fund a downtown economic development plan and feasibility study; Resolution 7818 authorized appraisal services for city-owned property at 917 South 11th Street in connection with moving operations to the landfill area; and Resolution 7819 approved a $1,400 appraisal review for property acquisition tied to a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant for Chautauqua Park pickleball courts. All of those resolutions passed unanimously (8–0).
On ordinances, the council passed Ordinance No. 26-20 to vacate lots 1–3 and Outlot A of the Beatrice Business Campus to allow Southeast Community College to consolidate and expand its campus, and passed Ordinance No. 26-21 updating the city code on fire prevention and protection (notably moving permit periods to a calendar year). The meeting adjourned at about 7:06 p.m.; the next regular council meeting was announced for 07/20/2026 at 6 p.m. at the BBS Administration Building.
