Weld County commissioners appoint Jason Marini as county assessor

The Weld County Board of County Commissioners on July 6 appointed Jason Marini as the county assessor to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Brenda Donas.

Marini, who addressed the board after the nomination, thanked commissioners and said he felt “blessed” for the opportunity and for the staff he will inherit. “Public service is a responsibility I do take seriously, and my office will continue to provide the high level of service that the people of Weld County deserve,” he said.

The appointment was made by motion, seconded and approved by the board with no recorded opposition. Commissioners praised Donas’s tenure and welcomed Marini. Commissioner Maxey moved the resolution to appoint Marini; Commissioner Peppler seconded it. Commissioners Buck and others spoke in support, calling Marini “an excellent choice” and promising assistance as he assumes the role.

Marini told the board he had learned from Donas and her staff and said he looked forward to “continuing to serve the great people of Weld County.” The hearing record notes that five commissioners were present for the meeting and Commissioner Kevin Ross was excused.

The appointment takes effect immediately as a board resolution; the board did not specify additional transitional tasks during the public portion of the meeting.

The board’s action concluded with a unanimous vocal vote in favor and the chair announced that the motion carried.
