The Ortonville City Council on June 15 approved a set of routine business items including liquor-license renewals, hiring for summer recreation and lifeguard staff, and two expenditure resolutions. The council also heard a staff report that a pool pump failure will delay inspection and the start of swim lessons by about one week.
Liquor licenses for 2026–2027 were approved for VFW, Sly’s, Lakewood, Moose Lodge 407, Ally Cat Pub & Grub, Ortonville Liquors, Headwaters, Berkner Pizza and Caseys, according to the minutes. The minutes do not record a separate motion text or vote tally for the liquor-license approvals beyond the line that the renewals were approved.
On personnel matters the council adopted Resolution 26‑74 to hire summer recreation employees and Resolution 26‑75 to hire lifeguards and pool staff. Resolution 26‑74 lists hourly rates for each hire (for example, Bailey Merritt at $18.94; other hires and rates are listed in the resolution). Resolution 26‑75 lists pool staff and lifeguard hires and hourly rates (for example, Lexi Hynnek as Pool Director & WSI at $24.05). Both resolutions were moved and seconded (motions in the minutes show Berger moved and Karels seconded) and passed by roll call with Aye votes recorded for Melton, Dwyer, Stattelman, Hausauer, Berger, Powell and Karels.
The council also adopted two expenditure resolutions. Resolution 26‑76 endorsed an expenditure paid on June 5, 2026 in the amount of $21,103.45. Resolution 26‑77 approved expenditures listed in the council report totaling $118,695.80. Both expenditure resolutions were moved and seconded (the minutes show Karels moved and Berger seconded) and passed by unanimous roll call.
Staff reported that the pool liner installation is complete but that a pump failure will require repair; as a result, inspection and the start of swim lessons were expected to be delayed by about one week, according to Sam (staff). The minutes do not record estimated repair cost, vendor selection for the pump repair, or a revised opening date beyond the one-week delay estimate.
