Council moves into executive session after approving certification and strategic-pillar updates

During other business at the July 9 work session, the council considered a liquor-permit certification, revisions to the city’s strategic pillars and a request to move into executive session.
A motion was presented asking the clerk to certify to the Ohio Department of Liquor Control that the Trenton City Council does not request a hearing on an application by 2 Brother LLC for a liquor permit at an East State Street location described to the council as a sports bar and grill. The clerk said the applicant is in good standing and that the business had a ribbon cutting about a month earlier. The council also heard a motion to revise Trenton’s strategic pillars by adding "responsible infrastructure" to the list of priorities discussed at the council retreat.
Miss Hart (reading for Nichols) requested an executive session to consider confidential information directly related to a request for economic development assistance and public infrastructure or utility extensions, citing Ohio Revised Code 121.22(g)(8). The mayor then moved to go into executive session for the stated reasons and also for the hiring/firing/disciplinary action or compensation of a public employee; the motion was seconded. Councilman Proffitt and Councilwoman Butts were identified in relation to the motion; roll call votes were recorded with all present members voting "Yay." The council entered executive session at 6:40 p.m. and suspended further work-session business until a planned return at 7:30 p.m.
The executive-session request cites Ohio law and was presented as confidential under the statutory exception; no substance from the closed session was disclosed in the public work session minutes.
