Mount Rogers outlines services, local-match request; library previews Summer Reading

Mount Rogers Community Services told the Bland County Board of Supervisors on May 26 that it continues to deliver primary care and behavioral‑health services to county residents through a mix of clinic and mobile‑van visits.
Sandy Bryant, executive director, said the organization operates a mobile van that visits the Bland County fairgrounds regularly; the next scheduled visit is June 3, when the van staff will include a nurse, a nurse practitioner and a mental‑health counselor. "We love our partnership with Bland," Bryant said, and asked the board to continue support.
Communications and marketing director Matt Sabo summarized client counts: after serving 264 clients in 2024 and 254 in 2025, the organization has served about 246 people so far in the current 10‑month reporting period, with a concentration of clients under age 45 and many under 18.
Christy Blevins, director of financial services, provided budget context: Mount Rogers’ FY26 budget is about $90.4 million in revenues and expenses; funding streams include third‑party insurance and Medicaid (roughly 46.5%), state funding (about 33.7%), federal funding (6.7%), contract sales (10.9%), local funds (about 0.52%) and miscellaneous contributions (1.68%). Blevins said the agency aims to maintain required reserves (about 12 weeks of operating expenses) and reported proposed local match funding for Bland County of $84,720.
Samantha Crockett, senior director of wellness and community engagement, reviewed free prevention and wellness services offered to schools, community groups and local partners and said the prevention/wellness team had recorded substantial outreach numbers through March of the current fiscal year.
Separately at the meeting, Haley Painter, branch manager of the Bland County Public Library, outlined Summer Reading 2026 programming with the theme "Unearth a Story," STEM collaborations with local schools, a coloring club, a weekly senior group and quarterly American Red Cross blood drives. Painter encouraged residents to follow the library on social media for event schedules.
The board later approved two Mount Rogers representatives, Samantha Crockett and Rebecca Martel, as alternates to the county’s Community Policy and Management Team (CPMT).
