Queenstown officials ask for more data before joining regional Sunrise Solar agreement

At the Jan. 8 Queenstown Commissioners meeting, Finance Member Pat Bowell outlined a proposed participation agreement for the Sunrise Solar program that would share a solar field among multiple towns to reduce electricity costs. Bowell said the agreement is under consideration and has been reviewed and revised by Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan.
Commissioner Bryon Callahan questioned whether the projected energy-cost savings — as presented to the committee — justify entering a long-term contract and expressed concern about arrangements for sharing power from a solar field serving multiple municipalities. Callahan asked for more detailed cost calculations and for clearer information about power-management and operational responsibilities.
The commission agreed to invite a Sunrise Solar representative, David Castle, to a future meeting to present the financial analysis and technical details. No formal vote on joining the program was taken at the Jan. 8 meeting.
Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan and Finance Member Pat Bowell are expected to coordinate follow-up materials and the scheduling of the company presentation.
