The Madison Common Council unanimously adopted a resolution on July 7 recognizing July 2026 as Disability Pride Month.
Alder Martinez Rutherford introduced the resolution, which notes that Disability Pride Month has been observed in July since 1990 following passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Scribe board member Nikki VanderMeelen accepted the resolution; the council invited members and the public to a flag‑raising ceremony at 11:30 a.m. the following day at the Madison Municipal Building.
Council members offered brief remarks of support when the resolution was presented and the chair recorded an enthusiastic unanimous vote.
