Humboldt County approves $669,483.81 in claims, authorizes permits and equipment purchases

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 23 approved $669,483.81 in county claims and $2,048.90 in drainage claims and cleared several routine permits and procurement actions.
Chairperson Bruce Reimers moved and Supervisor Rasmussen seconded to approve the claims and to instruct the county auditor to issue warrants as specified; the motion passed unanimously. The published claims list includes an insurance premium payment to EBS BCBS & PSF for $152,716.25, a large vendor payment to Nielsen, K.C., Ltd. for $306,022.62, Martin Marietta Materials for $35,180.38, and Motorola Solutions Inc. for $45,585.00.
Earlier on the agenda, the board approved a utility permit for Mid-American at 2187 215th St. (motion by Carpenter; seconded by Thompson), and approved an oversized driveway application for Anderson Aggregate, LLC (motion by Rasmussen; seconded by Thompson). The board also authorized Cole Anderson to hire a contractor to crush a pile of rock at the Rutland quarry where the scale is located (motion by Rasmussen; seconded by Carpenter). All these motions carried with unanimous votes.
On procurement, the board approved moving forward with obtaining county cell phones for the Board of Supervisors (motion by Rasmussen; seconded by Carpenter) and separately authorized Chris Madison to obtain quotes for five phones for the Board and six for Secondary Roads; those measures passed unanimously.
A personnel matter did not advance: discussion about authorizing the Recorder to advertise for a clerk position resulted in a motion by Rasmussen that failed for lack of a second, so no advertising action was taken. The board also discussed FY27 salaries but took no action during this meeting.
