Resident Joshua Day urges Ashland to add downtown bicycle parking

"I just don't know if the commission did or if you all have ever considered, bicycle parking for Ashland," Day said during public participation.
Commissioners acknowledged Day's request and said staff would review options. The commission noted an existing bike rack near the library but agreed that additional secure parking at high-traffic locations — near the fountain, ball fields and playgrounds — could help residents and visitors use downtown businesses more easily.
Speakers at the meeting described several practical hurdles and potential solutions. A resident said some businesses and services can take longer than two hours, and suggested a pay-by-phone or QR-code option so customers can legally add time without needing quarters. Commissioners discussed the history of the two-hour street-parking ordinance, its intended purpose to increase turnover, and the possibility of limited placards or pilot programs for groups that need longer stays.
The commission did not adopt a change at the meeting. Chair (speaker 1) said the suggestion would be given attention and staff were asked to review how additional bicycle parking or adjustments to curb-time policies might work in practice. That review will be the next procedural step; no ordinance or formal action on bike parking was taken at this session.
