Harrison County approves resolution allowing sheriff to place license-plate readers on TxDOT right-of-way

Harrison County commissioners on Oct. 9 approved a resolution authorizing the sheriff to execute a multi-use agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for placement of automatic license-plate reader (ALPR) cameras on TxDOT right-of-way.
Sheriff Fletcher and commissioners noted ongoing grant work to obtain funding for the cameras. The court discussed that some ALPR units will be permanently sited while others may be temporary, and expressed appreciation for staff work preparing locations and grant submissions. The resolution passed by unanimous voice vote (5–0).
Supporters said the agreement gives the sheriff authority to coordinate siting with TxDOT; no public opposition or detailed policy debate about data use or retention appeared on the record during the Oct. 9 meeting. The court directed staff to proceed with the multi-use agreements and grant applications.
