Harvard School Committee adopts FY27 budget, citing $700,000-plus revenue shortfall

The Harvard School Committee voted unanimously Dec. 15 to adopt the superintendent’s recommended FY27 budget, a 1.56% increase that district leaders say balances taxpayer responsibility with program continuity. Dr. Linda Dwight, the superintendent, told the committee the budget “responds directly to our economic reality,” and she said it manages “a $700,000 plus revenue loss,” adjusts staffing because of declining enrollment and aims to preserve services for students with the greatest need.
Committee members pressed staff about a high-school English position being reduced because of lower enrollment; leadership said there are no current openings in the district but they will monitor for retirements or other changes to try to retain the teacher. The committee plans to present the budget to the Select Board and Finance Committee on Jan. 12, 2026.
