Jason Moran of the city’s Emergency Management Agency told the council the resolution enables the city to access FEMA dollars after qualifying events and to participate in an identified flood mitigation program and a program described in the packet as sponsored by Phoenix. "To basically receive FEMA funds and if we have a disaster," Moran said, summarizing the purpose of the measure.
Councilors moved the resolution and approved it by voice vote. The action was presented as a routine enabling measure to give the city access to federal recovery and mitigation funding if needed.
The council did not add conditions to the resolution during the meeting. The next administrative steps are for city staff and EMA to pursue enrollment and grant paperwork as required by FEMA.
