Board hears traffic-pattern restriction enforcement and FAA feasibility study for Runway 34 approach

Airport manager Eric told the City of Cleveland Airport Advisory Board that a traffic-pattern restriction is in effect: touch-and-go landing operations (TGLs) are prohibited when four or more aircraft are operating in the traffic pattern. "Touch and go landing operations... prohibited when 4 or more aircraft operating in the traffic pattern," he said, and reported local instructors are enforcing the restriction and that staff are monitoring the effect on congestion.
Eric also updated the board on the Runway 34 approach: the approach submission has entered the FAA feasibility-study phase. "They have to do the feasibility study. Once that's complete, then we'll know if we have to cut down trees or anything like that for that approach," Eric said. He added that, if obstructions are identified, tree clearing or easement acquisitions may be required before a final approach can be established (Eric).
Board members raised approach lighting and minimums. The consultant told the board an approach-lighting system similar to an Odell-type installation would be helpful for runway identification but noted obstructions near the runway ends could limit achievable minimums and might require additional clearing or easements. The consultant agreed to illustrate lighting options in the revised ALP (Tony).
