The City of Vista presented a proclamation declaring July 2026 as Parks and Recreation Month and invited parks and community services staff and members of the parks and recreation commission to accept it. Moderator read the proclamation and encouraged residents to use the city’s parks and recreation offerings.
The proclamation noted that “parks and recreation, arts, cultural programs are essential to the quality of life in communities across the nation, including the City of Vista,” and called out the city’s more than 300 acres of parkland. The Moderator listed facilities and programs for residents, including Wave Water Park, Moonlight Amphitheater, the senior center and the Jim Porter Recreation Center, and encouraged participation in movies in the park, concerts and other events.
Debbie Piper, a member of the parks and recreation commission, accepted the proclamation and spoke about recent upgrades and the value of the programs. "I love the wave," Piper said, adding that upgrades to parks and activities have been “amazing” and expressing thanks to fellow commissioners and staff.
No formal votes or policy changes were recorded during the proclamation presentation. The event functioned as an acknowledgment of parks staff, volunteers and community partners and an encouragement for residents to use and support Vista’s parks and recreation resources.
