Beaumont council: new deputy public-works hire, quiet-zone update, event recognitions and a July 15 budget workshop

Council members used part of the meeting for routine announcements: the city welcomed a new deputy public works hire, officials congratulated event staff and the public health department, and staff provided operational updates on utility relocations and a railroad quiet zone.

Councilman Crenshaw said Dave, who previously worked at TxDOT, has joined Molly's team as a deputy public works director and will help with road and coordination issues. "Great... welcome aboard," Crenshaw said when announcing the hire.

Molly thanked Beaumont Events and Emily Wheeler for organizing recent Juneteenth and July 4 festivities and expressed personal condolences for her uncle, Antalmo Pepe Castillo, a retired Beaumont Parks employee who recently died.

On infrastructure updates, Molly said recent water-service leaks that had been pointed out have been repaired and that the gas company is working on relocating service lines on its own schedule. She also gave a timeline for remaining quiet-zone punch-list work: because the contractor must coordinate work inside the railroad right of way and with flagging companies, she said the remaining tasks are expected to be finished by the end of next week. "Then once that work is complete, the information can be sent to the Federal Railroad Administration for further processing," Molly said.

The city's CFO congratulated Mr. Coleman and the public health department on national recognition, and the city manager reminded council members of a budget workshop set for July 15 at 9 a.m. The meeting concluded with the presiding official adjourning.
