RSU 23 endorses Pre‑K MOU, discusses modular costs, approves calendar and policies

Superintendent Lloyd Crocker presented the invitation and requested board approval to join the Pre‑K initiative; the board endorsed the MOU on a motion by Jerome Plante, seconded by Michelle Violette.
On facilities, the board scheduled a workshop for April 30, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. in the LMS Library with Jeff Larimer from Harriman Architects to review proposals for all three schools and to gather input. Tim O’Connor and Jay Kelley reported they had compiled cost information showing approximately $180,000–$200,000 would be required to acquire a modular building to relocate the STP program to Old Orchard Beach.
The board held the second reading and approved policies IJNDB and IJNDB‑R on a motion by Stuart Hogan, seconded by Michelle Violette. The 2015–16 calendar proposal was presented with 181 staff days and 176 student days; school start/end times and minor notational corrections (color codes, teacher workshop symbol) were noted. Superintendent Crocker also flagged that November 3, 2015 is currently a student day and that town clerk Kim McLaughlin has requested the board consider making election days non‑student days in the 2016 calendar.
Board members said no final decision had been reached about consolidation (K–8 vs. K–12) and that a community forum would be organized to solicit public input.
