Center City Council approves consent agenda, lists old DNR pier for free and OKs outdoor event permit

At its Oct. 1 meeting the Center City Council approved the consent agenda, voted to list an old DNR fishing pier for free after Public Works reported it was in poor condition, and approved an Oct. 5 outdoor event permit for Tony's Bar & Grill. Council also rejected abandoning Schultz Ave. and tabled a Cooper contract proposal.
Center City’s council met Oct. 1 and approved its consent agenda and several routine items, while also taking decisions affecting public property and local events.
Mayor Jill Behnke called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The council voted 5–0 to approve the consent agenda — the October agenda, September meeting minutes and September claims — with the addition of a Cooper contract proposal referred to Public Works. The motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Councilmember Ryan Pease and seconded by Councilmember Mark Wolcott.
Public Works Superintendent Mike Roggemann reported that removal of the old DNR fishing pier and assembly of the new pier went well and that the new pier has been stored in the bay for winter. Roggemann told the council the old pier is “in very rough shape,” and the council voted 5–0 (motion by Pease, seconded by Lloyd Vetter) to list the old pier for free so a member of the public may take it.
During new business, Brian Dietz of Chisago Lakes School District presented an overview of district statistics and community-based programs (see separate article). An outdoor event permit application from Tony’s Bar & Grill for Oct. 5 from noon to 8 p.m. came before the council; the council approved the permit on a 5–0 vote (motion by Pease, seconded by Vetter).
Marcus of Bolton & Menk summarized engineering options that included a possible abandonment of Schultz Avenue. Council members were unanimously not in favor of abandoning the roadway and asked Bluhm to submit a quote for minimal or required repairs instead.
Public Works reported receiving a Cooper contract proposal for work as an independent contractor; the council tabled that proposal pending clarification and confirmation from the City of Shafer. Public Works also noted plans to arrange assistance to move the floating dock to winter storage.
