RSU 23 board approves hires, promotions, contracts and policies; executive session ends with no action
Summary
On June 10 RSU 23 accepted a retirement, a resignation, promoted a teacher to continuing status, approved multiple new hires and a 2% contract increase for the Adult Ed director, adopted policy updates and two MOAs, and conducted an executive session on employee matters with no action.
The RSU 23 board on June 10 approved a series of personnel and policy actions.
The board accepted the retirement letter from Jack Trull (motion by Stuart Hogan, seconded by Michelle Violette) and accepted the resignation of Alli Gamache effective Aug. 31, 2015 (motion by Michelle Violette, seconded by Stuart Hogan). Both motions were approved unanimously.
On a personnel promotion, the board withdrew a prior May 12 motion regarding Robert Gierie and then approved moving OOB High School teacher Robert Gierie from Level III to continuing teacher status for the 2015–2016 school year (motion by Stuart Hogan, seconded by Jerome Plante). The board also approved multiple hires: Mike Burke as Loranger Middle School social studies teacher (motion by Peter Flaherty), Emily Blazek as Old Orchard Beach High School science teacher (motion by Peter Flaherty), Sue Gallant as Pre-K coordinator (motion by Michelle Violette), and Cynthia Robbins for the K–8 RTI position (motion by Michelle Violette). All were voted unanimously.
The board approved the contract for Dave Durkee as Director of Adult Education, including a 2 percent salary increase (motion by Michelle Violette, seconded by Stuart Hogan). The board accepted two memorandum of agreement: Attendance Salary Incentive language in the teacher contract, and Storm Days and Vacation language in the educational support contract.
During the meeting the board conducted an executive session beginning at 7:13 p.m. under 1 M.S.R.A. § 405(6)(A) to review employee employment with possible action. The board returned to open session at 8:15 p.m. by motion of Carol Marcotte and Jerome Plante and reported that no action was taken in executive session. The meeting adjourned at 8:17 p.m.
All personnel motions were recorded as unanimous votes by the board members present.
