The RSU 23 board on Aug. 12 reviewed a facilities committee update that staff said will use recent oil and electric usage data to weigh repairing existing buildings versus building a new school. Superintendent Lloyd Crocker summarized the district’s ongoing facilities work and planning-team efforts.
Board member Peter Flaherty said Harriman has offered to hold two public forums so residents can ask questions about the facilities analysis and next steps. Flaherty told the board the firm would provide a prioritized list of items that need immediate attention to guide short-term repairs and longer-term capital planning.
The board also noted that the TIDES modular units recently received planning-board approval and the district is preparing to pull permits for plumbing and electrical work in both modular buildings. The meeting record does not attribute the permitting timeline to a single speaker.
Carol Marcotte thanked community volunteers for their participation in the facilities process and singled out Tim O’Connor for his efforts. The board did not take a formal vote on long-term construction; members said the Harriman forums and the list of immediate items will inform future decisions.
The facilities update also came alongside broader planning topics discussed at a leadership retreat, including technology goals and program alignment, which the superintendent said would be folded into the district’s facilities and curriculum planning.
The board did not set a decision date; staff will circulate Harriman’s forum schedule and the prioritized list of items to the board and public in coming weeks.
