RSU 23 board approves teachers'association MOA, hires and cooperative girls hockey affiliation

The RSU 23 Board of Directors on Oct. 13 unanimously approved a memorandum of agreement for the teachers'association, hired a third'grade teacher and approved a cooperative girls hockey affiliation for Old Orchard Beach High School.
The board voted to accept the memorandum of agreement for the existing teachers collective bargaining agreement (set to expire Aug. 31, 2018). Peter Flaherty moved the measure and Michelle Violette seconded; the board amended the MOA language to add a supplementary Blue View Vision program offered through Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield that employees may enroll in at their own expense. The motion passed unanimously.
The board also approved personnel actions. A motion by Michelle Violette, seconded by Stuart Hogan, to hire Cindy McSorley as a third'grade teacher at Loranger Middle School passed unanimously.
On athletics, the board approved a cooperative team affiliation that will allow Old Orchard Beach High School students to join with other districts to form a girls hockey team; the Maine Principals Association has approved the affiliation. The motion to accept the cooperative affiliation was made by Stu Hogan and seconded by Peter Flaherty and was adopted unanimously.
Board procedural business at the meeting included the unanimous approval of the Sept. 8, 2015 minutes (motion by Stuart Hogan, seconded by Michelle Violette) and the appointment of Nick LaCourse as the 2015'2016 student school board representative (motion by Peter Flaherty, seconded by Michelle Violette). The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m. following a motion by Peter Flaherty and second by Michelle Violette, which passed unanimously.
