Historic Preservation panel approves All I See is Gold sign at 18 W. Maple Ave

The Merchantville Historic Preservation Commission voted unanimously on Feb. 26 to approve a sign and exterior improvements application for All I See is Gold at 18 W. Maple Ave.

Ethan Paulto, a representative for Signarama, testified that the proposed signage would be black acrylic letters mounted flush to the building using silicone adhesive and 6-inch bolts, with letters finished in brushed gold. Paulto said the storefront would also include a round acrylic sign on the front brick and an additional sign facing the parking lot; he said the plan does not include painting the brick. On lighting, Paulto said he expects soffit-mounted signs to be lit and that he will recommend goose-neck fixtures for the overhang: "I anticipate soffit signs to be lit and will suggest the goose neck lighting."

Member Narcum raised concerns that removing fasteners could damage the building's brick and suggested enlarging the brick-mounted sign and aligning bolts with areas that would be easier to repair. Member Waldron proposed the lighting approach and moved to accept the application and testimony as presented with the condition that the brick sign be enlarged to the maximum size allowed by ordinance; Member Narcum seconded the motion. The commission recorded the motion as passing unanimously.
