Lincoln County commission unanimously orders Planning & Zoning to draft ban on data centers

The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously May 26 to direct Planning & Zoning to draft an ordinance that would prohibit data centers in the county.
Commissioner Troy Frassrand introduced information on data centers and moved that Lincoln County should not allow them; Commissioner Jennie Roles-Walter seconded and then amended the motion to instruct Planning & Zoning to prepare the proper documents for a formal vote. Planning & Zoning staffer Traci Perkins told commissioners she had spoken with Elaine Middleton of the Industrial Development Board and that the matter was under initial review. The amended motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
The commission’s action was procedural: it does not itself adopt a ban but asks staff to prepare ordinance language and bring it back for formal consideration. Commissioners did not record a separate roll-call vote on drafting the ordinance. Chairman Bill Newman and other members advised veterans and civic groups seeking events to coordinate with the County Mayor’s office for scheduling.
