HRC approves $500 for Japanese American Association festival on Aug. 29

The Human Rights Commission voted to provide $500 in support for the Japanese American Association of Lane County's community festival planned for Saturday, Aug. 29, at Eugene Gakuen school.
"I'm Lois Yoshishige, treasurer of the Japanese American Association of Lane County," Lois told commissioners, describing cultural programming that will include taiko drumming, obon dancing and family‑friendly food such as spam musubi and taifukumochi.
Commissioner Baldwin moved to approve the request and Commissioner Ward seconded. After a roll call of assent on the record, the motion passed.
Staff member Melissa will follow up with the association to arrange payment and to discuss the commission tabling at the event.
What's next: Melissa will contact the association to process the $500 payment and coordinate any HRC tabling or participation plans.
