Stratford Community Power reports 69% enrollment in first year

Andrew Hatch, a representative to CPCNH, told the Town of Stratford Board of Selectboard on Nov. 17 that Stratford Community Power enrolled 69% of residents automatically during its first year and that 0.4% of customers opted for higher renewable energy tiers.
Hatch said early participants have saved money overall despite recent market-driven changes that have left current rates slightly higher than Eversource. "69% of residents were automatically enrolled; a small fraction (0.4%) opted for higher renewable energy tiers," he said and added that new rates will be set next month.
Hatch said the program will communicate rate changes and other updates by email because mailed notices are not feasible "due to privacy and marketing constraints." He emphasized proactive local representation and noted informational materials were provided for Town Hall.
Board members asked clarifying questions about enrollment mechanics, communication methods and rate-setting. Hatch said staff will be actively looking for a new local representative to replace a departing planning-board member and that interested residents (including Mark McCullock and Brian Hays) had expressed interest in learning more.
The board did not take any formal vote on Community Power during the meeting; Hatch told the board that program staff will circulate new rate information next month and follow up by email.
