Stratford hears plan for lead service-line replacements, approves pool-water sewer abatements

He reported six known households with galvanized lines and said additional properties remain to be investigated; the board discussed potential loan and payment-plan options to help homeowners cover replacement costs.
Hays also described cost savings from procuring materials directly for a well flow-meter project and outlined sewer budget decreases tied to a shift from contractor to employee staffing, with anticipated savings from reduced benefits. The board approved the water and sewer budgets as presented.
The selectboard voted 3-0 to add language to the water/sewer ordinance permitting abatements for pool water that is not discharged to the sewer system; the amendment excludes outdoor watering for lawns and gardens. The minutes show the town plans to continue outreach to property owners to update records on service lines and to acquire spare equipment for sewer operations.
