Batavia Chamber spotlights new members and ASEL owner describes Korean shaved-ice cafe

BATAVIA, Ill. — Margaret Pearl, executive director of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, gave a July 6 update to the City Council highlighting new chamber members, recent events and upcoming activities, and introduced a new small business owner to the city.
Pearl listed new chamber members that joined in the past month, including Loaves and Fishes Community Services, Jung Family Painting, Martin Tech Services and Pavec Law Group, and thanked the city for sponsorship of the chamber's June 22 golf outing. She announced a business tour with state Representative Matt Hanson and state Senator Linda Holmes, and upcoming events including a ribbon cutting for Windmill Weekly on July 28 at the Batavia Chamber office.
Pearl introduced Sunny, who said, "My name is Sunny, and I'm the owner of Asel. It's spelled A-S-E-L, Asian treats and tea," and described the shop at 817 North Randall Road in front of Walmart. Sunny said ASEL has been open three months and is open Monday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Menu items she described include Korean-style shaved ice (bingsu), ceremonial-grade matcha and a "golden boba" coated in honey. Sunny said customers have traveled from other towns and states to visit the cafe and encouraged residents to come try the menu.
The Chamber requested community support for new members and invited council members to the retirement celebration for longtime chamber staffer Shirley Matt on July 22 and to the Windmill Weekly ribbon cutting July 28.
