Batavia council appoints IRP task force members and adds two to Environmental Commission

BATAVIA, Ill. — The Batavia City Council on July 6 approved appointments to an interim IRP task force and confirmed two three-year appointments to the Batavia Environmental Commission.
City staff (City Administrator) presented the recommended IRP task force roster: Max Weiss and Steve Allen as staff liaisons; Sebastian Wettig (Wettig Corporation); and residents Carrie Aschenbach, Patrick McVeigh and Ian Johnstone. "There is yet one position to fill on the IRP task force and that is one member of the Batavia Environmental Commission," the City Administrator said, adding the Environmental Commission would select its representative at its next meeting. Staff described the IRP project as a four-month effort with about eight or nine meetings and suggested a midpoint report to council.
Alderman (Committee member) moved to appoint the listed members; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call as recorded in the meeting transcript.
Separately, the council approved appointments of Ellen Romandy and Lisonbee Wall to the Batavia Environmental Commission for three-year terms after motions, seconds and roll-call votes. The council's roll-call record shows the membership votes with Barraza and Lancey absent at one point in the sequence.
Council discussion emphasized transparency and reporting: members asked that the task force provide periodic updates and staff agreed to share schedules. The City Administrator said the task force will meet on the first and third Wednesdays each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Appleton Room, with at least one council member expected to attend the meetings.
