BATAVIA, Ill. — The Batavia City Council on July 6 voted to rescind a prior authorization and approve a new contract with Builders Paving LLC to carry out the city's 2026 street resurfacing and sidewalk replacement program.
The council adopted Resolution 2026-076-R after Public Works Director (Public Works Director) told members staff had discovered a nonconforming element in the previous bid award and was returning to the council to correct the procurement. "We noticed something, that was a nonconforming to our bidding specs for what I had previously brought forward," the Public Works Director said, adding the recommended contractor has worked for the city in recent years and staff had "no concerns with their work." The director said Builders' price rose "like, a $100,000," and that details were available in the project memo.
The action rescinded Resolution 2026-069-R and authorized execution of a contract with Builders Paving LLC. Council members moved, seconded and approved the resolution by roll call; the motion carried as recorded in the meeting record.
City officials said the award will allow the resurfacing and related sidewalk-replacement work to proceed after staff completed clerical and specification checks and confirmed the recommended contractor met requirements. The council did not amend the scope at the meeting and no additional funding source changes were announced during discussion.
The vote followed a brief discussion confirming the procurement and budget oversight. Applause followed passage of the motion. The council moved on to other business after the resolution passed.
