Vandewalle & Associates presented the Village of Slinger's plan to update its five-year Park and Open Space Plan at the March 2, 2026 Parks, Recreation & Forestry Board meeting.
Consultants Kyle Estrada and Meredith Perks said an updated plan would make the village eligible for additional funding and outlined a timeline that includes stakeholder meetings scheduled for next week and a return visit to the board in May to review draft #1. The consultants asked the board for input on park priorities and potential funding strategies.
Recreation Supervisor Elizabeth Van Maanen presented the results of a public survey used to inform the plan. Van Maanen said 234 residents responded; according to the survey the top priorities are walking and biking trails, indoor recreation space and restroom and park amenities. The board discussed park needs and a five-item wish list for the park system; consultants will incorporate survey responses and stakeholder feedback into the draft.
No formal action was taken on the plan at the March 2 meeting; consultants and staff will continue outreach and return with draft materials in May.
