Slinger Park Board hears plan update, approves minutes and adjourns

The Village of Slinger Parks, Recreation & Forestry Board met on March 2, 2026, and received an update on the five-year Park and Open Space Plan process while taking routine procedural actions.
Consultants Kyle Estrada and Meredith Perks of Vandewalle & Associates presented the plan update process, telling the board that an updated plan will open additional funding opportunities and that the consultants plan stakeholder meetings next week and will return in May with draft #1. Recreation Supervisor Elizabeth Van Maanen presented survey responses collected for the plan; she said 234 residents responded and identified walking and biking trails, indoor recreation space and restroom/park amenities as top priorities.
Parks Supervisor Josh Feller reported that pruning at Cedar Bluffs and American Eagle is complete and that staff are preparing spring plantings, including 24 replacement trees this season. Recreation Supervisor Van Maanen said winter programming and leagues have wrapped up, toddler playtime and youth tumbling sessions have begun, and staff are finalizing the Summer Activity guide for an April publication. Director Tony Dobson said staff are searching for two additional Music in the Park sponsors and have contacted the Slinger VFW about the Brat Fry; he is awaiting their reply.
Votes at a glance: The board approved the minutes from the Feb. 2, 2026 meeting on a motion from Bob Stuettgen with a second from Scott Kusta; the motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 6:56 p.m. on a motion from Dawn Smith with a second from Becky Wojtak; the motion passed. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2026.
