Jeff Carpenter, the applicant, told the committee he has operated a firearms business from his Lombard home for six years and that all firearms are stored in safes, sales occur by appointment only, and he undergoes annual ATF and state police inspections. "I abide by all the rules," Carpenter said, describing alarm systems, cameras and a dedicated safe for incoming transfers.
Staff said the parcel is a conforming R‑3 lot and that the Planning & Zoning Commission voted 7–0 to recommend approval with seven conditions. Committee members asked about enforcement and emergency response; several members said the applicant appeared to be operating in compliance with applicable rules and inspections.
The committee’s roll call recorded unanimous support for the recommendation. The matter will be forwarded to the full County Board in the normal process.
