Fielding council says town won’t enforce private fireworks as members plan Fun Day show

During public comment and general discussion, several council members and residents discussed fireworks rules ahead of the town’s Fun Day. Council member (speaker 3) and others noted that state and county stage-2 restrictions cover unincorporated county and state lands but do not automatically apply inside incorporated town limits; they also noted that forestry and the county fire marshal remain responsible for some regional restrictions. The council heard that Riverside’s professional fireworks show obtained county permission and would proceed under county oversight.
Chair said he would not enforce private fireworks and emphasized that individual users would bear liability if fires occurred: “I’m not gonna enforce it,” he said, adding that the town could assist if a fire started but would not assume responsibility. Other council members urged sticking with the band/ban for now and recommended coordinating any public display with the county and professional pyrotechnicians.
Separately, organizers outlined the Fun Day program for the holiday weekend: a veterans flag-raising, a 7:30 a.m. breakfast, vendor food and games, a fish pond, baby contests, and a dunk tank staffed by the fire department. The council discussed the cost of an alternate drone show and deferred that option because of price. Fireworks for Fun Day were treated as a professional, county-cleared display rather than permitting ad hoc private displays.
The council instructed staff to confirm any required permits or county coordination for the professional fireworks show and to proceed with the other scheduled Fun Day activities.
The meeting proceeded to other agenda items after councilors approved the consent agenda by voice vote.
