Engineers recommend shifting North Main Street crossing to east side; council to review refined cost estimates

City staff and the engineering team described a proposed change to the Phase 2 plan for North Main Street and the 3rd Street crossing, reporting that constructing the crossing on the east side of the intersection appears more feasible than the previously planned alignment.
Public works/staff presenter (S5) told the council that shifting the crossing will simplify construction logistics and reduce conflicts with long service runs: “We found it to be far more feasible to shoot across on this side of the highway, on the other side of the street, and cross on the east side of that intersection,” S5 said. The engineer and a staff member (Cody) were present to review the option and will update plans and cost estimates.
S5 also shared preliminary meter counts for the northbound portion of phase 2 and said a detailed estimate remains in progress. Council did not adopt the change order at this meeting; presenters asked for time to finalize the proposal and return with a formal change order and cost breakdown for council approval.
